Trisha Elam Asks to Be Reelected as Clever Mayor

This article was originally posted at Hello, Clever (HelloClever.Wordpress.com)

With the election coming up so very quickly I wanted to introduce myself to those that I have not met and to say”hello” to those that I know.

My name is Trisha Elam. I will be married to Scott Elam for 22 years this August. I have lived in Clever for 14 years. Our 3 wonderful boys have gone to Clever Schools. My oldest son, Brandon, is attending MSSU in Joplin; Mason, our middle child, is leaving for the Air Force in late June or early July. The youngest Preston is in 8th grade and enjoying band and baseball this year. Scott works in Springfield and I have been fortunate enough to be mom and mayor.

I have served as mayor since January 2007. Before that I was an alderman for eight years. Clever is a growing community that I am very proud to be a part of. We need to be forward thinking at this time and I do feel like I am the leader to keep us moving in a positive direction. I know progress is slow and can be frustrating but we are progressing.

If you will allow me to serve for 2 more years, here are a couple of things I would like to see done… I hope to resurface Elm St. from Brown Street to Drive St where the funeral home is… If the funds are there I would also bring it to Council that Kennedy St. needs some serious attention. The trail partnership with the school and MODOT gave this community the opportunity to have a safe place to walk I hope to be able to expand on our parks in Clever.

For more of a State of the City address….

  • We are right on track with our budget..yes it is balanced and as long as I am in office it we will not have an unbalanced budget. We live by a budget same as our citizens.
  • We have not had to lay off anyone or cut staff in any way.
  • Our water and sewer infrastructure is in tip-top shape. We are putting in a new screening system and a phosphorous removal system, this will update our sewer plant and help protect the environment. Since the water system was updated Clever enjoys a very low ISO fire rating of a four…what that means to you…call your insurance agent and bring it to their attention, It will lower you home owners insurance.
  • Building in Clever had a slow down…building slowed everywhere… but I believe the City sold more building permits this year then ALL of Christian County.
  • Economic Growth has finally hit Clever…With the new Casey’s, Danny’s Pizza, Murfin’s Market, and now the new Dollar General coming into Clever the sales tax revenue from those businesses impact Clever in a huge way. The figures are not in yet as to what kind of sales tax income increase we have had but next year sales tax will be even better. Please SHOP CLEVER!!!

I have helped spearhead the recent growth in Clever and I’d like the opportunity to continue. We’re growing at a nice steady pace and there is no reason to slow it down or speed it up. Help me and the board of alderman continue to stay the course with your vote this April… Clever, It just gets better everyday! Vote April 6 for Trisha Elam!

Trisha Elam is running for re-election as Mayor of Clever on April 6.
Any other city, school board, or other candidates on the April 6 ballot in Christian County are welcome to  submit an editorial to Editor@ChristianCountySun.com. Editorials from citizens wishing to back particular candidates or initiatives are welcome as well.
